“MESTIZO SERIES: TIERRA ENCANTADA” (LAND OF ENCHANTMENT) - ROOM 411

Amado Pena Artist Room
From the Artist - Amado M. Peña, Jr:
The inspiration behind the imagery is a tribute to the land and the people of the Southwest. A combination of latex paint, acrylic paint and collage were used to create the imagery.  The south wall represents the land and the people.  The north wall represents traditional dwellings of the Pueblo peoples.  Around the perimeter of the room, the colorful dots represent our universal language of humanity.

Peña is a renowned, prolific master artist guided by an inner spirit that captures the essence of his heritage, culture, and environment. Only a master artist like Peña can use line and color to capture the eye and heart of the viewer to see and feel the joy, struggle, beauty, peace and pain of his sisters and brothers in this land. Years of hard work and dedication to mastering the craft have brought many celebrations, honors, and recognition, but Peña has always known that success in life is not in the “getting,” but in the “giving.” He is often referred to as the “Gentle Giant” because people who know him recognize his kindness, generosity, and compassion.
